Employee Satisfaction survey: Adopt it to improve business
Employees are the backbone of every business. The company is bound to suffer in case they are unhappy, under trained, or unable to do their job correctly. That is the reason employee satisfaction is of utmost importance. The best way to understand their satisfaction level is employee satisfaction survey .
What generally happens is that companies restrict themselves to customer centric activities. You would have heard of Customer Satisfaction Survey or customer service survey so many times. But not something like employee opinion survey is very rare to hear. But, remember that a survey can help you keep tabs on your employees’ attitude about their work. For example, a survey helps you make sure that your employees feel like they have been well trained in their jobs. There is nothing more frustrating for an employee than feeling like they don’t know what they are supposed to be doing. Therefore, an under trained employee is an unhappy employee. And of course, this ultimately results in unhappy customers.
While it may not be immediately obvious, an employee satisfaction survey ensures that your customers are happier, as well as ensuring your employees are happy and confident in their jobs. Moreover, employees are devoted only in case they are happy. This thing helps you retain the employees. That way, it saves both the time and money for your business if you need not go through the process of hiring and training new employees again and again. Companies generally spend a lot of amount for their recruitment process. They spend even more over training. There is a huge need to save these costs by retaining the employees.
There is a big need to find out ways to keep your employees happy. In many cases older employees start feeling sidelined in terms of remuneration they get in lieu of their services. There can be many reasons to feel so. Whatever be the issue, an employee satisfaction survey will surely shed some light over the subject.
Many business owners don’t realize the powerful connection between your employees’ happiness and your business’s success. You can’t have a successful business without happy, competent employees, so it makes sense to use an employee satisfaction survey to keep tabs on your employees’ attitudes about their work and their workplace.
JusFeedback is one company that provides various solutions in the field of survey, be it employees specific, customer centric or students related. You can have all kinds of Survey Software from them; be it online survey software, Web Survey Software, Customer Survey Software, mobile survey software, or some other software solution.

A Bibliographic Guide to the History of Computing, Computers, and the Information Processing Industry $166.67 As millions of people have been exposed to computing through the tremendous growth of microcomputers, there has developed an increasing appreciation of the history of data processing, which dates back many decades before the arrival of the computer. Stretching back to at least the 1860s, such early technologies as adding machines, punch cards, and the office appliance industry are now being recognized for their place in the history of the information processing industry. This work brings together a comprehensive list of sources that offer a general introduction to the literature of the industry. Divided into nine chapters covering topics and historical periods, the bibliography provides an annotated list of published materials describing both the history of the industry and significant items of general interest. Each chapter is introduced with a short review of historically important issues and comments on the literature, and contains contemporary publications as well as more recent material. To give the work a continuing usefulness, ongoing publications, such as computer magazines, are highlighted. Entries are grouped under nearly 100 subheadings, covering such material as contemporary descriptions of hardware and software of the past, seminal technical papers, industry surveys, programming languages, significant individuals and companies, and the role of Japan and microcomputing. All citations are annotated with a brief summary of either the work’s contents or its historical importance, while two indexes provide both subject references and author citations. This bibliography will be an important reference source for courses in the history of data processing and business history, and auseful addition to public, college, and university libraries. |

An analysis of sports media usage by adults. $49.99 The problem was an analysis of sports media usage of adult attendees of the Virtual Sports Employment Fair, March 18-19, 2009, online through the company, Expos2. It was determined this is the first time that virtual online technology was used to contact subjects for an academic study. Although the survey itself was disseminated via virtual marketing software, the initial and all subsequent interaction with the subjects was done completely online using Expos2 software. A two-page questionnaire of 40 questions was developed to determine what sports media adults use on a regular basis, with what frequency these are used and if there was a consideration of content and gender. A pilot study was conducted with 20 adults ages 18 and older to test the reliability and validity of the questionnaire. Changes were made to the survey based on the results of the pilot study and recommendations by a panel of experts. The subjects were volunteers who agreed to be part of the study for a small incentive. All the subjects were attendees of the Virtual Sports Employment Fair, held March 18-19, 2009. The survey was uploaded to a subscription-based virtual marketing company, Constant Contact, and the names of all the attendees of the Virtual Sports Employment Fair were entered into the e-mail database. An e-mail request to complete the survey was sent to all attendees of the Fair at least twice during the event and again the following weekend. Of the 162 attendees that registered, 123 had active accounts, and 40 voluntarily participated in the study. The data supplied from the 40 surveys was collected and entered into SPSS 15.0 analysis software. The researcher was unable to draw any statistically significant differences between the usage habits of older and younger adults, men and women and education levels. The researcher concluded that older adults preferred to use news-based sports media over entertainment-based media; whereas, the younger adults used both programming bases. In |

Assessing undergraduate students’ perceptions of ethics instruction in a computing curriculum. $69 The topic of ethics in the computing curriculum is essential to the credibility of computing programs. Over 20 years ago, CSAB (formerly the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board) deemed that the inclusion of ethics is necessary for the educational development of students in the computing curriculum. CSAB “is the lead society for accreditation of programs in computer science, information systems, and software engineering, and is a cooperating society for accreditation of computer engineering. In this capacity, CSAB has responsibility for the proposal of accreditation criteria and for the selection and training program evaluators.” (www.csab.org) The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) approves all criteria. (www.abet.org);The problem, however, is that there is no documented literature to provide education on the successful or lack of successful implementation of ethics in the computing curricula. In addition, there is very little information on students’ experiences with a computer ethics course. The purpose of this study is to examine the experiences of students with a computer ethics course offered at University X and provide a baseline study to increase awareness and provide direction in the development of computer ethics in the computing curricula.;This study assesses students’ perceptions of an ethics’ course content and structure. Students’ perceptions are based on their experiences with the course content and application. The researcher examines and interprets students’ responses using a quasi-experimental design. The instruments used in the experiment are pre and post evaluation surveys distributed to students in the researcher’s ethics courses. The pre evaluation survey is distributed before the beginning of the ethics course. The post evaluation survey is distributed on the last day of the ethics course.;The research looks at the data in terms of correlation between student perceptions of the ethics course pedagogy and the |

Autonomous Robots $60 Autonomous robots are intelligent machines capable of performing tasks in the world by themselves, without explicit human control. Examples range from autonomous helicopters to Roomba, the robot vacuum cleaner. In this book, George Bekey offers an introduction to the science and practice of autonomous robots that can be used both in the classroom and as a reference for industry professionals. He surveys the hardware implementations of more than 300 current systems, reviews some of their application areas, and examines the underlying technology, including control, architectures, learning, manipulation, grasping, navigation, and mapping. Living systems can be considered the prototypes of autonomous systems, and Bekey explores the biological inspiration that forms the basis of many recent developments in robotics. He also discusses robot control issues and the design of control architectures. After an overview of the field that introduces some of its fundamental concepts, the book presents background material on hardware, control (from both biological and engineering perspectives), software architecture, and robot intelligence. It then examines a broad range of implementations and applications, including locomotion (wheeled, legged, flying, swimming, and crawling robots), manipulation (both arms and hands), localization, navigation, and mapping. The many case studies and specific applications include robots built for research, industry, and the military, among them underwater robotic vehicles, walking machines with four, six, and eight legs, and the famous humanoid robots Cog, Kismet, ASIMO, and QRIO. The book concludes with reflections on the future of robotics — the potential benefits aswell as the possible dangers that may arise from large numbers of increasingly intelligent and autonomous robots. |

Design and development of a semantic music discovery engine. $108 Technology is changing the way in which music is produced, distributed and consumed. An aspiring musician in West Africa with a basic desktop computer, an inexpensive microphone, and free audio editing software can record and produce reasonably high-quality music. She can post her songs on any number of musically-oriented social networks (e.g., MySpace, Last.fm, eMusic) making them accessible to the public. A music consumer in San Diego can then rapidly download her songs over a high-bandwidth Internet connection and store them on a 160-gigabyte personal MP3 player. As a result, millions of songs are now instantly available to millions of people. This ‘Age of Music Proliferation’ has created the need for novel music search and discovery technologies that move beyond the “query-by-artist-name” or “browse-by-genre” paradigms.;In this dissertation, we describe the architecture for a semantic music discovery engine. This engine uses information that is both collected from surveys, annotation games and music-related websites, and extracted through the analysis of audio signals and web documents. Together, these five sources of data provide a rich representation that is based on both the audio content and social context of the music. We show how this representation can be used for various music discovery purposes with the Computer Audition Lab (CAL) Music Discovery Engine prototype. This web application provides a music query-by-description interface for music retrieval, recommends music based on acoustic similarity, and generates personalized radio stations.;The backbone of the discovery engine is an autotagging system that can both annotate novel audio tracks with semantically meaningful tags (i.e. a short text-based token) and retrieve relevant tracks from a database of unlabeled audio content given a text-based query. We consider the related tasks of content-based audio annotation and retrieval as one supervised multi-class, multi-label problem in which we model |

Experimentation in Software Engineering $124 (This book is available at a reduced price for course adoption when ordering six copies or more. Please contact ulysses.guasch@springer-sbm.com for more information.) The purpose of Experimentation in Software Engineering: An Introduction is to introduce students, teachers, researchers, and practitioners to experimentation and experimental evaluation with a focus on software engineering. The objective is, in particular, to provide guidelines for performing experiments evaluating methods, techniques and tools in software engineering. The introduction is provided through a process perspective. The focus is on the steps that we go through to perform experiments and quasi-experiments. The process also includes other types of empirical studies. The motivation for the book emerged from the need for support we experienced when turning our software engineering research more experimental. Several books are available which either treat the subject in very general terms or focus on some specific part of experimentation; most focus on the statistical methods in experimentation. These are important, but there were few books elaborating on experimentation from a process perspective, none addressing experimentation in software engineering in particular. The scope of Experimentation in Software Engineering: An Introduction is primarily experiments in software engineering as a means for evaluating methods, techniques and tools. The book provides some information regarding empirical studies in general, including both case studies and surveys. The intention is to provide a brief understanding of these strategies and in particular to relate them to experimentation. Experimentation in Software Engineering: An Introduction is suitable for use as a textbook or a secondary text for graduate courses, and for researchers and practitioners interested in an empirical approach to software engineering. |

Flexible Product Development: Building Agility for Changing Markets $8.39 Innovation drives the marketplace, but the path to successful products is more uncertain than ever. Today’s customers are more vocal about what they want, competitors introduce disruptive new products, and new technologies are appearing more frequently. While senior executives continue to boast about the importance of innovation within their organizations, surveys show that over the past decade there has been a dramatic decrease in new-product innovation. In this landmark book, Preston Smith attributes the recent decline in innovation to pressure from financial markets, which drives management toward rigid development approaches such as phased development processes, Six Sigma, and project office. These processes have unintentionally (but effectively) made changes during development more difficult, disruptive, and expensive, while the need for change continues at an accelerating pace. Flexible Product Development is a hands-on resource that provides the tools and strategies needed to restore flexibility to any organization and remove the obstacles that stand in the way of responsive new product development. Preston Smith introduces approaches that can enhance development process flexibility by creating and maintaining development options, delaying decisions, and, in general, reducing the cost of change. Step-by-step, he explains the basics of flexible product development, provides a broad array of flexibility-enhancing tools, and guides the reader in modifying the organization’s values to embrace this new way of operating.Flexible Product Development was inspired by the great gains in flexibility made in the allied field of software development by the agile software movement. While software agility depends on unique characteristics of the software medium, Flexible Product Development supplies a comparable set of effective tools for developing new non-software products. For companies both large and small that need to become more limber in launching new |

Global Optimization: From Theory to Implementation $149 Most books about global optimization describe the theory of the algorithms, whereas a given implementation’s quality never depends exclusively on the theoretical soundness of the algorithms that are implemented. The literature rarely discusses the tuning of algorithmic parameters, implementation tricks, software architectures, and the embedding of local solvers within global solvers. And yet, there are many good software implementations “out there” from which the entire community could learn something. The scope of this book is moving a few steps toward the systematization of the path that goes from the invention to the implementation and testing of a global optimization algorithm. Some of the contributors to the book are famous and some are less well-known, but all are experts in the discipline of actually getting global optimization to work. Thus, the papers in this book address the following topics: • descriptions of new implementations of general-purpose or problem-specific global optimization algorithms;• new algorithms in global optimization (some with numerical results and a discussion of the implementation);• surveys discussing existing software packages.AudienceGlobal Optimization: From Theory to Implementation is intended for graduate students and researchers in operations research and optimization. |

Hunting and Imaging Comets $30.82 Of all the objects visible in the night sky, it is the brightest comets that have most fascinated amateur astronomers and alarmed the human population. No other objects can stretch as far across the sky as the tail of a truly great comet, or be as easily visible as a zero-magnitude ‘broom star.’ In recent times amateur astronomers have made some surprising discoveries, including the comets Hale-Bopp and Hyakutake, while also playing a critical role in detecting the comets that hit Jupiter in 1994 and 2009. It was also an amateur astronomerthat first spotted the dazzling October 2007 outburst of 17P/Holmes. Discovering a comet has always been the greatest prize for the amateur astronomer – the chance to truly “write your name across the sky.” Remarkably, despite routine professional CCD surveys, many amateurs worldwide still discover comets in the 21st century. In Hunting and Imaging Comets Martin Mobberley, an active comet imager himself, explains how non-professionals have achieved such success. This book describes in precise detail how amateur astronomers can find comets and capture spectacular images of them using modern telescopes, CCDs, and digital SLRs. Mobberley also explains how computer software can be used to measure the positions and brightness magnitudes of comets to a professional standard and how to submit those scientific results to the astronomical community. If you want to search for new comets, or simply observe known ones, this is the book for you! |

Chapters: Quantitative Marketing Research, Multivariate Testing, Uplift Modelling, Bcc Research, Optimized Consumer Intensity Analysis, Turf Analysis. Not illustrated. Excerpt: Quantitative marketing research is the application of quantitative research techniques to the field of marketing. It has roots in both the positivist view of the world, and the modern marketing viewpoint that marketing is an interactive process in which both the buyer and seller reach a satisfying agreement on the “four Ps” of marketing: Product, Price, Place (location) and Promotion. As a social research method, it typically involves the construction of questionnaires and scales. People who respond (respondents) are asked to complete the survey. Marketers use the information so obtained to understand the needs of individuals in the marketplace, and to create strategies and marketing plans. Simply, there are five major and important steps involved in the research process: A brief discussion on these steps is: The design step may involve a pilot study to in order to discover any hidden issues. The codification and analysis steps are typically performed by computer, using software such as DAP or PSPP. The data collection steps, can in some instances be automated, but often require significant manpower to undertake. Interpretation is a skill mastered only by experience. The data acquired for quantitative marketing research can be analysed by almost any of the range of techniques of statistical analysis, which can be broadly divided into descriptive statistics and statistical inference. An important set of techniques is that related to statistical surveys. In any instance, an appropriate type of statistical analysis should take account of the various types of error that may arise, … More: |

Multiple Criteria Optimization $50.78 The roots of Multiple Criteria Decision Making and Multiple Criteria Optimization were laid by Pareto at the end of the 19th century, and since then the discipline has prospered and grown, especially during the last three decades. Today, many decision support systems incorporate methods to deal with conflicting objectives. The foundation for such systems is a mathematical theory of optimization under multiple objectives.Since its beginnings, there have been a vast number of books, journal issues, papers and conferences that have brought the field to its present state. Despite this vast body of literature, there is no reliable guide to provide an access to this knowledge. Over the years, many literature surveys and bibliographies have been published. With the ever rapidly increasing rate of publications in the area and the development of subfields, these were mostly devoted to particular aspects of multicriteria optimization: Multiobjective Integer Programming, Multi-objective Combinatorial Optimization, Vector Optimization, Multiobjective Evolutionary Methods, Applications of MCDM, MCDM Software, Goal Programming. Hence the need for a comprehensive overview of the literature in multicriteria optimization that could serve as a state of the art survey and guide to the vast amount of publications. Multiple Criteria Optimization: State of the Art Annotated Bibliographic Surveys is precisely this book. Experts in various areas of multicriteria optimization have contributed to the volume. The chapters in this book roughly follow a thread from most general to more specific. Some of them are about particular types of problems (Theory of Vector Optimization, Nonlinear Multiobjective Programming, Fuzzy Multiobjective Programming, Multiobjective Combinatorial Optimization, Multicriteria Scheduling Problems), while the others are focused on multi-objective methodologies (Goal Programming, Interactive Methods, Evolutionary Algorithms, Data Envelopment Analysis).
