What Employees are Experiencing, Thinking and Feeling — Employee Satisfaction Surveys
Employee Satisfaction and Employee Engagement Matter to Companies – Here’s Why Employee satisfaction is a key driver of employee engagement, and employee engagement in turn is a key driver of customer satisfaction and loyalty, employee retention, productivity, sales, overall organizational performance and profit. Employee satisfaction surveys and employee engagement surveys are the best way to accurately learn about what your employees are experiencing, thinking and feeling. These are the experiential and psychological factors that strongly influence employee behavior, and employee behavior can result in low or high levels of customer satisfaction, employee and customer retention, productivity, product and service quality, competitiveness, profit and growth. While employee behavior is clearly reflected in the bottom line of all organizations, company financials and other “hard data measurements” do not actually assess employee behavior or what is driving employee behavior. Further, “hard data” measurements do not gather employee perceptions, opinions, feelings and suggestions. Employee satisfaction surveys and employee engagement surveys are the best and most cost-effective way to gather and efficiently report information, insight and suggestions from all of your employees on an anonymous basis, ensuring that employees provide honest, comprehensive feedback without fear of retribution. Can any organization afford not to conduct employee satisfaction surveys / employee engagement surveys annually and take serious action based on the survey findings? Identifying Outliers Outliers are statistical observations that are markedly different in value from the others of the sample. Outliers are things that are situated away from or are classified differently from a main or related body. Quantisoft’s employee satisfaction surveys / employee engagement surveys identify outliers in companies and other types of organizations, including departments, products, processes and other important things that are rated very high or very low by employees. The very highly rated outliers are the things that are your organization’s best practices, the things that are driving employee and customer satisfaction and engagement, and profit. They are the things that your organization should recognize for their excellence and focus on duplicating throughout your organization. The very low rated outliers are the things that are eroding profit, driving away customers, tying up employees resolving recurring problems and hurting your organization’s reputation. Outliers often include identification of risks that can significantly hurt your company. They are the things your organization needs to work on to significantly increase employee and company performance. Your Employees Have Lot’s to Say! Are You Listening? — What Employees are saying in Employee Satisfaction Surveys and Employee Engagement Surveys conducted by Quantisoft Could the following comment have come from an employee in your organization? It actually came from a sales person that sells sophisticated equipment, working at a large company that designs, builds, sells and services the equipment in North America, Europe and Asia. “Everyone sits in their cubicle either protecting their piece of turf or covering their own tails totally incapable of making a decision that could serve a customer or help get an order” During the deep recession, many companies have laid off significant numbers of employees, reduced or eliminated salary increases and bonuses and matching contributions to retirement plans, and they have cut back on employee benefits, including medical insurance. Companies have also been reducing expenditures on marketing, IT hardware and software and other things that bring in business and make the organization more efficient. Many employees are in fear of being laid off and they resent the cutbacks in compensation, benefits and business expenditures. As a result of all of these cutbacks, Quantisoft has been seeing lower levels of employee satisfaction and employee engagement in many of our employee satisfaction and engagement surveys. More employees are commenting on their dissatisfaction and some are saying they are planning to look for a new job as soon as the job market opens up again. Here are some of the other things we are seeing in employees’ comments in employee satisfaction surveys and employee engagement surveys : 1. Communications within and across departments and business units needs improvement 2. Communications from senior management filtered by middle managers and supervisors 3. Mission, vision and values not communicated effectively and not executed consistently across organizations….. Unclear company direction, short-term focus 4. Poor leadership 5. Corporate culture that is not supportive of innovation, asking for and listening to employees’ ideas, empowerment and decentralized decision making 6. Internal turf battles, workplace conflict, excessive politics and inward focus 7. Verbal abuse and occasional physical abuse 8. Insufficient coordination, teamwork and cooperation between business units with inadequate companywide focus on customers 9. Some managers that are “managers from hell”….. very difficult to work for, exhibiting favoritism and biases 10. Cumbersome, inefficient processes and business practices 11. Inadequate focus on quality and customer service 12. Employees not having the tools and information they need to perform their job effectively (e.g. slow PC’s and networks, lack of access to company databases from the field, mission critical enterprise software such as SAP, Oracle and Sales Force Dot Com not working effectively several years after initial implementation, now supplying smart phones and laptops to field sales force when the competition does, etc. etc. etc.) 13. Some companies barely using the technology solutions they are selling when it would enhance their own employees’ and company’s performance 14. Inconsistent adherence to the performance planning and measurement process…..some managers not preparing & conducting performance reviews, inaccurate, incomplete and unfair information included in performance reviews…..compensation changes not based on performance reviews 15. Inadequate training, development and mentoring 16. Inadequate orientation for new employees 17. Perceived discrimination based on age, race and gender What’s on the Minds of Your Employees – Final Thoughts Many senior executives think they know what’s on the minds of their employees. While some may have a good feel about their employees’ feelings, perceptions and opinions, many others are only guessing and have very limited information and insight. Yet as demonstrated in this article, accurately knowing what is on the minds of your employees is critical for making better business decisions, increasing employee engagement and performance, increasing customer satisfaction and loyalty, and boosting sales and profit. Employee satisfaction surveys and employee engagement surveys are the best way to identify employees’ feelings, perceptions, opinions and suggestions from across your organization at a very low cost. There is every reason to conduct employee surveys annually and to make sure the findings are acted on. A surrogate measure of customer satisfaction in the manufacture of Printed Wiring Boards. $108 The objective of this research is to determine and develop a model that is capable of accurately measuring customer satisfaction for different industries and in particularly for the Printed Wiring Boards (PWB) Manufacturers. The new model will incorporate data not being collected or utilized by the survey method of determining customer satisfaction.;The method used is a weighted average of satisfaction among several researched categories with percentages that accurately represent the relative importance of multiple facets of the PWB manufacturers customer satisfaction.;A very common term in quality assurance is that “What is not measured accurately can not be evaluated or managed correctly,” thus customer satisfaction is a very important aspect of any business, industry, or government. A satisfied customer will do more business and recommend it to other potential customers. Thus the business will grow and more revenues result. On the other hand, an unsatisfied customer will abandon the business and encourage more customers not to get involved with the same business so the business may decline and lose its market share and profitability. The categories that contribute to PWB customer satisfaction will be determined by conducting surveys among the leaders and best in the business of the PWB industry in addition to discovery of related articles that define the categories of the customer satisfaction for the PWB manufacturers.;Once the categories are determined, the research concentrates on the weighting of the categories that most contribute to the PWB customer’s satisfaction and a measure of satisfaction is derived. The model is easily applied to any other kind of PWB business or service industry.;The model is based on empirical methods that will give an accurate measurement for the PWB customer’s satisfaction. This in turn allows organizations the opportunity for improving customer satisfaction and increasing market share. The algorithm is based on characteristics |

Achieving Better Service Delivery Through Decentralization in Ethiopia $25 Achieving Better Service Delivery Through Decentralization in Ethiopia examines the role decentralization has played in the improvement of human development indicators in Ethiopia.Ethiopia has made major strides in improving its human development indicators in the past 15 years, achieving significant increases in the coverage of basic education and health services in a short period of time. Improvements took place during a period of massive decentralization of fiscal resources, to the regions in 1994 and to woredas in 2002-03. The devolution of power and resources from the federal and regional governments to woredas appears to have improved the delivery of basic services.Surveys of beneficiaries reveal that they perceive that service coverage and quality have improved. Beneficiary satisfaction has increased markedly in education, and less conspicuously in water and health services. In the south, the decentralization to woredas in 2002-03 tended to narrow differences in per capita expenditures on education and health across woredas. Decentralization disproportionately favored woredas that are remote (more than 50 kilometers from a zonal capital), food-insecure, and pastoral, suggesting that decentralization has been pro-poor.Decentralization also narrowed the gap in educational outcomes between disadvantage and better-off woredas, especially in the south. Pastoral, food-insecure, and remote woredas gained in terms of the educational outcomes examined (gross enrollment rates, grade 8 examination pass rates, repetition rates, pupil-teacher ratios, and teacher-section ratios). |

Employee behaviors: Their impact on organizational outcomes. $49.99 The primary purpose of this study was to determine whether the behaviors that an organization has chosen to measure as indicators of individual performance were related to the organizational outcomes. In addition, the study explored the relationship of four organizational justice constructs and overall satisfaction on these organizational outcomes.;To investigate these relationships, research was conducted within a major airline with flight operations throughout the world. The participants were the primary contacts from each travel agency and corporate account of the 90 Sales Manager employees of the North America Field Sales & Marketing Division. Two types of measures were used in this analysis. The first type was a rating of behaviors and organizational justice/satisfaction constructs which were used as predictor variables. These ratings were obtained through surveys which consisted of items that measured Sales Managers’ specific behaviors and organizational justice/satisfaction variables. The survey was administered by an independent benchmarking company, via an online link over the internet to the 3,562 travel agency and corporate account primary contacts handled by these Sales Managers. The second type of measure consisted of travel agency and corporate account outcomes which were used as a criterion variable. These measures consisted of account specific sales performance data over four discrete time periods.;The relationship between the predictors and criterion were examined using four analytical procedures including Correlations, Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE), Exploratory Principle Components analysis, and Hierarchical Regression analysis. The results of this study found support for a relationship between behaviors and outcomes; however, the results revealed one general behavior construct, and therefore, the individual behavior items could not be identified. Furthermore, the researcher found that the organizational justice/satisfaction items |

Examining followership styles and their relationship with job satisfaction and performance. $49.99 The legitimacy of followership, as an area of research within organizational psychology is beginning to become more accepted. This study was designed to examine followership styles and their relationship with job satisfaction and job performance. The three standardized instruments used in this study include the Followership Questionnaire (Kelley, 1992), the Job in General Scale (Ironson, Smith, Brannick, Gibson, & Paul, 1989), and the Organizational Citizenship Behaviors scale (Williams & Anderson, 1991). Findings indicate that a significant positive relationship exists between followership styles and job satisfaction and job performance. The findings enhance the theoretical study of followership by providing empirical evidence needed to validate further research. Suggestions concerning further research on the subject of followership are offered. |

Handbook of Positive Psychology in Schools $119.95 National surveys consistently reveal that an inordinate number of students report high levels of boredom, anger, and stress in school, which often leads to their disengagement from critical learning and social development. If the ultimate goal of schools is to educate young people to become responsible and critically thinking citizens who can succeed in life, understanding factors that stimulate them to become active agents in their own leaning is critical. A new field labeled “positive psychology” is one lens that can be used to investigate factors that facilitate a student’s sense of agency and active school engagement. The purposes of this groundbreaking Handbook are to 1) describe ways that positive emotions, traits, and institutions promote school achievement and healthy social/emotional development 2) describe how specific positive-psychological constructs relate to students and schools and support the delivery of school-based services and 3) describe the application of positive psychology to educational policy making. By doing so, the book provides a long-needed centerpiece around which the field can continue to grow in an organized and interdisciplinary manner.Key features include:Comprehensive – this book is the first to provide a comprehensive review of what is known about positive psychological constructs and the school experiences of children and youth. Improving Customer Satisfaction, Loyalty, and Profit: An Integrated Measurement and Management System $1.99 Most companies understand that customer satisfaction and loyalty are essential to their success. But few companies know how to link their customer’s needs with their organization’s processes to create the best customer experience possible. Instead, they erect walls between their customer service department and their other organizational functions.Improving Customer Satisfaction, Loyalty, and Profit shows managers how to break down these walls, find out what their customers want, and use that information to produce the kinds of products and services that will keep them coming back.Michael Johnson and Anders Gustafsson have been instrumental in the development of customer satisfaction indexes in the U.S. and Europe. Here they team up to introduce a five-stage process that establishes crucial connections between a company’s marketing, sales, product development, and customer service departments in order to deliver both top-quality products and a high-level customer experience. The process begins with measurement. Johnson and Gustafsson walk readers through the steps necessary to determine a customer measurement strategy, observe and communicate with customers, create formal customer surveys, and process and interpret the survey data. Then they show readers how to use that data to build a cohesive plan for quality improvement and ongoing customer management.By helping mid-level managers assemble specific estimates of how increased quality and customer loyalty will impact the bottom line, their process allows upper-level managers to allocate the resources necessary to build a truly customer-oriented company. And by cementing the links between products, patrons, and profits, their book highlights the core competencies companies need to create both happy customers and the organizational know-how necessary to keep them happy. |

Inside-Out Marketing; Building Restaurant Volume Wihtout Breaking Your Budget $300.06 Increase sales by not competing? No, this isn’t some sort of New Age marketing mysticism. It’s part of an amazingly successful, commonsense approach to restaurant marketing that author Bill Marvin call guest-based marketing. What exactly does guest-based mean? It’s really pretty simple. The dynamic marketing approach described in this book is based on the notion that in the restaurant business, customer satisfaction is the real bottom line, and that any successful sales-building effort begins on the floor with the guests you’ve already won. In Guest-Based Marketing you won’t find clever new ways to squander your precious resources trying to beat the competition and steal their customers away. You will find sales-boosting techniques that will help you to motivate your customers to keep coming back for more, even if it means driving an extra mile or two. Using numerous case studies and real-life anecdotes, Marvin describes proven techniques to help you identify and build on your strengths, build customer loyalty, increase the number of visits customers make, and get your customers to spread the word and attract new customers. Marvin teaches you how to launch an effective customer loyalty program and use an array of incentives to build sales. He helps you hone your all-important people skills. You’ll learn techniques for remembering guests’ names, as well as their individual likes and dislikes. He shows you how to conduct customer surveys and make the best use of the information you gather. |

Investigating the interrelationships among various measures of family strengths. $69 The study of family strengths, as opposed to family dysfunction, has increased over the past few decades. Six interrelated components of family strength were identified that may affect the degree of marital satisfaction of husbands and wives. The six components—worth, commitment to relationship stability, commitment to relationship growth, communication, positive interaction, and time spent together—are characteristics within a family that may have substantial connections. Identical surveys were administered to couples in three major metropolitan areas. The data for the study were a sub-sample of data collected as a mail survey as part of a larger survey of membership retention within a mainline Protestant denomination. The main mail survey contained 10 pages. For about one-third of the sample, an additional two-page survey was given concerning premarital counseling and marital satisfaction. Another third of the sample was given an additional 2-page survey on family strengths and marital satisfaction. In addition to 20 family strengths items, those surveyed were asked to respond to the three questions of the Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale. Data from these couples were used to test a hypothesized model of the interrelationships between the various measures of family strength using a detailed path analysis model with marital satisfaction as the dependent variable. The variables worth, commitment, communication, positive interaction, and time together functioned as intervening variables in the model with age, gender, various measures of religiosity, income, education, and age of children functioning as independent variables. The data were then analyzed by ordinary least squares regression techniques to test the model using marital satisfaction as the dependent variable. The results of testing the model indicated that strength in certain characteristics predicted strength in other characteristics at statistically significant levels (p < .05). Intrinsic |

Jesus Christ: God’s Revelation to the World $24.95 Jesus Christ: God’s Revelation to the World provides a map for high school students to navigate the wonderful work of God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—in forming a People, giving a Law, and preparing for a Messiah. This text offers the perfect reading companion to the Bible—Old and New Testaments—through the lens of discovering the Lord, Jesus Christ.Developed in collaboration with esteemed religious educator, Michael Pennock, this course has been designed along with the U.S. Bishop’s recommended high school curriculum framework, is rooted in Christology, and is written with the objective of strengthening a teen’s friendship with Jesus. It has been found in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church. In addition, the text is perfect for a one-semester course on Scripture, as it surveys the entire scope of the Old Testament and New Testament. Jesus Christ: God’s Revelation to the World begins, however, by centering the study of Scripture on a person’s natural instinct to search for God. St. Augustine wrote: “Our hearts are restless until they find rest and satisfaction in God our Creator.” This instinct leads students to a desire to uncover the path of God’s Revelation, culminating in the Incarnation and the saving works of Jesus. |

Manufacturing Advantage $27.82 Much of the hoopla surrounding quality circles, teams, and high-performance work systems has been based on anecdotes and very thin evidence. It has not been established that those employee involvement strategies amount to anything more than another series of management fads or ruses designed to get more out of workers without giving them anything in return. This revelatory book, written by some of the skeptics, lays some of the suspicion to rest.Based on their visits to 44 plants and surveys of more than 4,000 employees, Eileen Appelbaum, Thomas Bailey, Peter Berg, and Arne L. Kalleberg concluded that companies are indeed more successful when managers share knowledge and power with workers and when workers assume increased responsibility and discretion. The study of steel, apparel, and medical electronics and imaging plants revealed much. In self-directed teams, workers were able to eliminate bottlenecks and coordinate the work process. In task forces created to improve quality, they communicated with individuals outside their own work groups and were able to solve problems. Expensive equipment in steel mills operated with fewer interruptions, turnaround and labor costs were cut in apparel factories, and costly inventories of components and medical equipment were reduced. And what did the employees think? The worker survey showed that jobs in participatory work systems often provide more challenging tasks and more opportunities for creativity. Employees in apparel had higher hourly earnings; those in steel had both higher hourly earnings and higher job satisfaction. Workers in more participatory settings were no more likely than others to report heavy workloads or excessivedemands on their time. They were, however, less likely to report involuntary overtime or conflict with co-workers, and were more likely to be satisfied with their surroundings.Manufacturing Advantage provides the best assessment available of the effectiveness of high-performance work sys |

Nurse manager competency and the relationship to staff satisfaction, patient satisfaction, and patient care outcomes. $69 This quantitative research study explored the correlation of five domains of nurse manager competencies (i.e, conceptual, technical, human, leadership, and financial) with outcome indicators for both nursing staff and patients. These outcome indicators included staff satisfaction measured by staff turnover, patient satisfaction with pain management, medication errors, and patient slips and falls. This study utilized a convenience sample of 33 first-line nurse managers of acute, adult, inpatient units from 12 hospitals within a health care system in the midwest. The sample included 30 females and 3 males with a modal age category of 45 to 54 years old. Participant surveys included the Nurse Manager Competency tool, demographic data and outcome indicator data. Data were analyzed utilizing correlational statistics that included the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and the coefficient of determination. Central tendencies were also calculated to define the characteristics of the group that was studied. Results demonstrated that a significant relationship existed between patient satisfaction with pain control and the nurse manager competency domains of conceptual, human, leadership, and financial for a subsample of medical surgical murse managers. In addition, for the same subsample, there were negative correlations between patient falls and the human and conceptual nurse manager competency domains. Findings from this study have identified potential elements that most directly relate to staff and patient outcomes, and that should be considered in the development of educational programs, as criteria for selecting talent, and as performance indicators for evaluating nurse managers. |

Perceived need for mental health care, mental health service utilization, and satisfaction with care in elderly people. $49.99 Background. Elderly people experience symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illnesses differently than younger people, and only half of elderly people with a probable mental illness use mental health care services. Nevertheless, most mental health care research has focused on younger people. This study examined relationships among attitudes toward care, quality of social support, severity of mental illness, presence of physical comorbidities or alcohol abuse problems, sociodemographics, possession of supplemental insurance, perceived need for care, rates of utilization, and satisfaction with mental health care for elderly people.;Methods. Data were used from the Collaborative Psychiatric Epidemiology Surveys (CPES), a nationally representative, cross-sectional study of community-dwelling people’s mental illnesses and mental health care utilization patterns. Logistic and linear regression models were used to study perceived need, utilization, and satisfaction with care.;Results. Perceived need for mental health care increased with severity of depression and anxiety, history of chronic physical conditions, and pressure to seek care. Among respondents who met diagnostic criteria for depression or anxiety, the number of mental illness symptoms experienced was still related to perceived need for care. The odds of using formal mental health care increased with severity of depression or anxiety and with history of chronic physical illnesses. When utilization was measured among respondents who perceived a need for care, however, most measures of mental illness severity and history of chronic physical illness were no longer significant. There was little variation in the satisfaction measure, and multivariate models of satisfaction were unstable.;Conclusion. Many elderly people who meet diagnostic criteria for depression and/or anxiety disorders do not use mental health services or even perceive a need for these services. Predictors of dental hygienists’ career settings, patterns, and satisfaction. $49.99 The purpose of this study was to survey 1800 current licensed dental hygienists in the United States and identify broad and basic interest patterns within Holland’s six General Occupational Themes, skills confidence patterns, and similarities and differences according to educational attainment and career setting. Additionally, this study compared the effectiveness of using Holland’s Typology of Persons and Environments and the Social Cognitive Career Theory to explain career track interest and satisfaction.;A total of 928 participants (51.9%) returned the paper survey, while 436 participants (24.4%) also completed the online surveys. Results support coding the dental hygiene profession as Investigative-Social-Realistic using the General Occupational Themes. Dental hygienists had the most significant mean differences in the Healthcare Services, Medical Science, and Science Basic Interest Scales as compared to the General Representative Sample (GRS). The mean confidence scores for satisfied dental hygienists were significantly lower than Employed Women in all six General Occupational Themes. Age, years of experience, and the level of degree did not account for the low confidence levels of dental hygienists. The female dental hygiene scale for the 2004 Strong Interest Inventory was developed from the sample collected by the researcher (N=322) with 30 items, with a minimum percent difference of 25%, and a Q of 1.68. Satisfied dental hygienists with a baccalaureate degree were found to have significantly higher mean scores in the Performing Arts, Writing and Mass Communication, Human Resources and Training, and Politics and Public Speaking Basic Interest Scales. Dental hygienists who score higher in the Social and Artistic themes may want to investigate dental hygiene education.;The General Occupational Themes model did significantly predict the satisfaction levels of educators (9.1%) and public health workers (34.7%) within dental hygiene. Social Work in Social Change $34.2 As the implementers of government social policy in South Africa, social work professionals have been at the forefront of social change and new approaches since 1994. This study surveys the current state of job satisfaction among social workers and reports on education programs and hiring trends for people in training in the field. The new, national, standardized Bachelor of Social Work degree is shown to be a success, and enrollment and graduation statistics confirm that African females, rather than white females, are now the dominant student profile. Strategic Employee Surveys: Evidence-based Guidelines for Driving Organizational Success $45 Most large organizations today conduct employee surveys to measure employees’ opinions regarding the organization and its policies and practices. A properly formulated employee survey program can represent an opportunity to affect and strengthen the organization, making it more competitive in the marketplace in which it operates. But although there are a handful of books available today to guide the development of survey programs, there are none that approach the topic from a strategic point of view. Strategic Employee Surveys was developed to explain the Strategic Survey Model and how it can be used to guide the development of employee survey programs, ensuring they serve their strategic purpose. In addition, this book guides organizations in the most effective survey feedback and action planning processes.Dr. Jack Wiley explains that survey program purpose, survey content, and survey follow-up processes should all derive from business strategy. In the first part of the book he offers specific examples of how to measure safety, ethics, union vulnerability, work and life balance, and diversity. He also reveals the drivers of employee retention and employee engagement and how to measure them along with examples of survey content that best predicts customer satisfaction and loyalty and other business performance metrics. With each type of survey content, Wiley also presents the most recent normative results, useful for placing results from any organization into the proper interpretative context. The second part of the book offers specific guidance on the other key component of ensuring employee survey program success: the survey feedback and action planning process. Wiley outlines a time-tested seven-step model of survey feedback and action planning, explaining each step of the model and providing real-life client examples that identify the most common pitfalls of the overall process. Readers will learn how to navigate around these potential problems and |

The First Sexual Revolution $24.27 Based on impressive research in a wide variety of sources, including popular literature, advertisements, true confession and physique magazines, advice columns, sex surveys, vice investigation reports, and personal letters, The First Sexual Revolutionoffers a provocative interpretation of the impact of the sexual revolution on men. White’s boldly-stated criticism of sexual liberalism is sure to arouse controversy. Yet his view of men confused by new expectations of attractiveness and sexiness, threatened by women’s demands for sexual satisfaction, yet essentially still in control, is compelling. Leila J. RuppOhio State University, Co-author ofSurvival in the Doldrums: The American Women’s Rights Movement, 1945 to the 1960s. In the early 1900s, a sexual revolution took place that was to define social relations between the sexes in America for generations. As Victorian values gradually faded, and a commercialized consumer culture emerged, the female figure of the flapper came to embody early-twentieth century femininity. Simultaneously, masculine ideals were also undergoing radical change. Who then was this New Man to accompany the New Woman? Who was the flapper’s boyfriend? In this remarkable book, Kevin White draws on a vast array of sources to examine the ideology spread through movies, advertisements, sex confession magazines, social hygienists, sex manuals, and Freudian popularizers that has defined modern American manhood. Examining attitudes toward masturbation, homosexuality, violence against women, feminism, free love, and the emerging dating system, The First Sexual Revolutionshows how American men in the Jazz Age were subjected to a barrage of information andadvice about their sexuality that stressed not character but personality and sex appeal. Repression was out; sexual expression performance was in. This New Man was more egalitarian and more sexual than the Victorian patriarch. But the diffusion to the middle class of th |
