Dynacraft Online Putter – Clubhead $19.95 The On-Line is a multi-functional putter that the first thing you will say, is why didn't someone come out with this before? For starters, the mallet design offers plenty of heel-toe weighting to ensure the ball rolls straight on its intended target. The size of the horseshoe shaped opening was not only carefully selected to act an extremely effective alignment guide, but you can scoop up the ball without having to bend over. If you look closely, there are two slits on either side of the putter. With the ball cradled while the putter is suspended in the air, these slit coincide exactly with the equator of the ball. Take a Sharpie pen and you can mark straight lines on both sides of the ball. Finally, no more digging in your bag looking for your ball marker tool, it is already built into the On-Line putter. Align, Putt, Pick up, Mark your ball. The Dynacraft On-line putter does it all! Click here for more information on the Dynacraft On-Line Putter |

A study of the relationship of three social activities and an individual’s extrinsic career success. $69 Individuals are discovering that they are now operating in a business environment different then in the past. In order to achieve extrinsic career success in this new environment, employees are finding that they need to learn and implement nontraditional business skills. The purpose of this study was to investigate if there was a relationship between participating in certain social activities and achieving extrinsic career success through the use of nontraditional business skills. The specific activities reviewed were sporting activities, volunteer activities, and drinking activities. The nontraditional business skills identified in the study were the use of networking, mentoring, political skills, and social skills. This research was conducted using a quantitative study employing an online survey. The survey consisted of four-point Likert-style questions concluding with three open-ended questions. There were 114 usable surveys which provided the data for this research study. Frequency analysis, regression analysis, and the test of independent means were the different analyses used to analyze the survey responses. There were five primary conclusions drawn from this research study. Several conclusions centered around the small amount of time spent on the three social activities and their moderate impact on career success highlighting specific activities which were of more value. Several other findings focused on the moderate impact on career success of attending social activities with work colleagues and that if more time were spent attending these functions, and using nontraditional business skills, additional career benefits would be possible. The last finding was that adjusted R2 values were consistently generated during regression analysis, albeit with small values all below .10. As the sole determinant of career success, this is not a good predictor; however, as a compliment to traditional skills, this is an important finding. Participating in these activities |

An examination of the relationship between collective efficacy and Advanced Placement teachers’ perceptions of parent involvement and self-efficacy in a high school setting. $49.99 Mandates for academic excellence have increased students’ opportunities for Advanced Placement (AP) and honors-level classes. Key to the success of these classes is strong teacher efficacy beliefs. Minimal research has been dedicated to the investigation of areas of influence on AP teachers’ collective efficacy beliefs. This study analyzed the relationship of two factors: teachers’ perceived parent involvement and self-efficacy beliefs on AP teachers’ collective beliefs. Data was collected from 32 AP high school teachers using three online surveys: a self-efficacy scale, a collective beliefs scale, and a parent involvement survey. The theoretical frameworks of Bandura, Epstein, and Bronfenbrenner were employed to explain the interactive relationships between the three variables. Results of the study did not reveal a significant relationship. However, findings do provide practical implications and recommendations concerning the perceptions of AP teachers toward the type and intensity of parental involvement needed for the development of successful AP students. |

Chapters: Archaeology in Samoa, Archaeology in Singapore, Archaeology in Lebanon, Archaeology in Ethiopia, Archaeology in Azerbaijan, Archaeology in Armenia, Archaeology in Afghanistan. Excerpt: Archaeology in Samoa began with the first systematic survery of achaeological remains on Savai’i island by Jack Golson in 1957. Since then, surveys and studies in the rest of Samoa have uncovered major findings of settlements, stone and earth mounds including star mounds, Lapita pottery remains and pre-historic artifacts. An important part of archaeology in Samoa and Oceania involves finding the answer to the origins of Polynesians, ongoing research which is being undertaken in conjunction with other fields including linguistics and genetics. The oldest date so far from pre-historic remains in Samoa has been calculated by New Zealand scientists to a likely true age of circa 3,000 BP (Before Present) from a Lapita site at Mulifanua during the 1970s. Jack Golson excavation site in Vailele with a visit from members of the I’iga Pisa family, 1957.Earlier accounts of ‘earthmounds’ and ‘monumental architecture’ were known but no scientific surveys were carried out until Golson’s indepth work in 1957. Golson also carried out field work on Upolu where he discovered the first pottery sherds in Samoa at Vailele village on the island’s north coast. At the 10th Pacific Science Congress in Honolulu in 1961, archaeologists decided to make a coordinated approach in investigating the region’s pre-history. During 1963-1964, this work was carried out by an international team led by Roger Curtis Green under the Polynesian Archaeology Programme of Auckland University. Building on Golson’s surveys, the team carried out field work on the islands of Savai’i, Upolu and Apolima. Anot… More: |

Attitudes of coordinators and music teachers toward Taiwanese elementary school musically gifted and talented programs. $49.99 In 1973, according to the "Elementary School Gifted Students Research Project" directed by the Ministry of Education of Taiwan, the first public school's Musically Gifted and Talented Program (MGTP) was founded at Fu-Shin Elementary School in Taipei, Taiwan. In 2007, 43 elementary schools that offered Musically Gifted and Talented Programs, which served 4,380 pupils from third to sixth grade. During the past three decades, the debates regarding whether Taiwanese MGTPs should be continued or abolished have persisted. However, broad and in-depth research related to these programs has been very limited. The purpose of this study was to explore the state of current Taiwanese elementary MGTPs and investigate the nature of participants' attitudes toward five aspects of Taiwanese elementary MGTPs: policies and policy making, identification, grouping and curriculum, teacher preparation, and values. Specifically, the researcher examined how these attitudes related to administrators' and music teachers' professional backgrounds and their positions. Subjects for this study were divided into two groups: elementary MGTP coordinators and assistant coordinators, and elementary MGTP music teachers. Of the 20 elementary schools participating in this study, 17 coordinators, 17 assistant coordinators, and 146 music teachers completed online surveys on their attitudes toward Taiwanese elementary MGTPs. Data from the study revealed that (a) more than two-thirds of the elementary MGTPs in this study had no financial aid for their students; (b) the elementary MGTPs' teacher-class ratio almost reached 2.0; (c) the number of students participating in the annual identification tests of the MGTPs was decreasing. Findings from both inter-group and intra-group analysis indicated that respondents strongly agreed with the following: (a) It is necessary to establish a nationwide elementary school MGTP association for improving curriculum design and |

Consumer ubiquity or anytime anywhere consumption: Scale development and validation. $49.99 The research objective of this dissertation is to develop and validate a scale measure of consumer ubiquity that indicates the individuals’ propensity to shop online “anytime, anywhere” given a wireless, internet-based ubiquitous marketplace. Through a focus group, two surveys and a set of experiments we generate items, construct and validate a ten-item three-dimension scale and apply it for segmentation and targeting with different mobile advertising strategies. The scale demonstrates sufficient validity as a predictor of proactive mobile shopping behavior, but its applications in terms of segmentation and targeting for mobile advertising are more complex. Though the more ubiquitous consumers show greater openness towards mobile advertising, their responsiveness to the advertisements differ based on the type of advertising strategy used and the location where they receive the advertisement. |

Consumers’ prior experience and attitudes as predictors of their online shopping beliefs, attitudes, and purchase intentions in a multichannel shopping environment. $49.99 This study was designed to develop a conceptual model which indicated (1) the interrelationships among consumers’ prior in-store shopping experience with the multichannel retailer, consumers’ advertisement attitude, and their brand attitude and (2) the causal relationships of consumers’ prior in-store shopping experience with the multichannel retailer, consumers’ advertisement attitude, and their brand attitude with online shopping beliefs, attitudes, and purchase intentions at the website of the multichannel retailer. The conceptual model is based on the Theory of Reasoned Action, Schema Theory, and the Consumer Decision-Making Process.;This research was comprised of two phases which were the brand selection phase and the model development phase. The brand selection stage (Phase I) was used to select three multi-channel apparel retail brands to be used in the Phase II research. Phase II research consisted of the model development and the hypotheses testing with the sample of four thousand randomly selected female college students. A pilot-test was conducted with female undergraduate students for both phases of the study. Web-based surveys were used to gather the data for the main surveys of the Phase I and Phase II research.;To develop the measurement model, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to assess the validity of the scales. The three predictors of beliefs about online shopping at the website of the multichannel retailer were reduced to two predictors (i.e., prior in-store shopping experience with the multichannel retailer and brand attitude) after the construct validity was tested. Structural equation models for three apparel retail brands (i.e., Gap, Old Navy, and American Eagle) were developed using the data of the Phase II main survey.;Multiple-group SEM was conducted to test structural invariance across the brands. The results indicated that this conceptual model can be applied to all three brands considered together. A positive |

Employee behaviors: Their impact on organizational outcomes. $49.99 The primary purpose of this study was to determine whether the behaviors that an organization has chosen to measure as indicators of individual performance were related to the organizational outcomes. In addition, the study explored the relationship of four organizational justice constructs and overall satisfaction on these organizational outcomes.;To investigate these relationships, research was conducted within a major airline with flight operations throughout the world. The participants were the primary contacts from each travel agency and corporate account of the 90 Sales Manager employees of the North America Field Sales & Marketing Division. Two types of measures were used in this analysis. The first type was a rating of behaviors and organizational justice/satisfaction constructs which were used as predictor variables. These ratings were obtained through surveys which consisted of items that measured Sales Managers’ specific behaviors and organizational justice/satisfaction variables. The survey was administered by an independent benchmarking company, via an online link over the internet to the 3,562 travel agency and corporate account primary contacts handled by these Sales Managers. The second type of measure consisted of travel agency and corporate account outcomes which were used as a criterion variable. These measures consisted of account specific sales performance data over four discrete time periods.;The relationship between the predictors and criterion were examined using four analytical procedures including Correlations, Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE), Exploratory Principle Components analysis, and Hierarchical Regression analysis. The results of this study found support for a relationship between behaviors and outcomes; however, the results revealed one general behavior construct, and therefore, the individual behavior items could not be identified. Furthermore, the researcher found that the organizational justice/satisfaction items |

Extending the Technology Acceptance Model using perceived user resources in higher education web-based online learning courses. $69 The purpose of this research was to examine students’ acceptance of the World Wide Web Course Tools (WebCT) online learning system. The Perceived Resources and Technology Acceptance Model (PRATAM) was created based on previous research to address the factors of perceived resources, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude toward using, behavioral intention to use and actual system use. The aim for this research was to investigate the critical determinants and provide the causal relationships regarding students’ acceptance behaviors when using WebCT.;While institutions are expecting to adopt online learning to reach more students, there are still many challenges for institutions to retain students in their online courses. The literature review conducted in this research indicated that the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) has successfully explained students’ behaviors when they use educational information systems. In addition, the additional perceived resources variable in the PRATAM also showed a significant influence on the other belief and intention variables.;The study analyzed a total of 115 students responses in two surveys administered during two WebCT based courses taught at a large southeastern public university. The beliefs, attitudes, intentions, and behavioral constructs of PRATAM showed significant goodness-of-fit indices and coefficient of determination after analyzing the data in both surveys. However, the results indicated several exceptions on PRATAM’s constructs and causal relationships. First, the path coefficient between perceived resources to behavioral intention to use in both pre-test and post-test were insignificant.;Second, the path coefficient between behavioral intention to use and actual system use in pre-test was insignificant. Third, the path coefficient between perceived resources and perceived usefulness in post-test were insignificant. In addition, the research also suggested an additional link between perceived ease of |

Learning strategies, motivation, and self-reported academic outcomes of students enrolled in Web-based coursework. $69 The arrival of the Internet and the web browser has led to a worldwide explosion of web-based virtual classes as a form of instructional delivery systems among institutions of higher education (Moore & Kearsley, 2005). Colleges and universities are beginning to offer classes and in some instances complete programs using the Internet. However, research on student motivation and outcomes is mixed. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between student self-regulation, self-efficacy, motivation toward web-based coursework, self-reported course outcomes, and reasons for enrolling in web-based courses on student retention in web-based courses. A web-based survey was developed by the researcher along with The Motivation Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ), developed by Pintrich, Smith, Garcia, and McKeachie (1991). A total of 21 community college students from a possible sample of 189 submitted their completed surveys for a response rate of 11.6%. The findings of the study indicated that student motivation was not statistically significantly correlated with self-reported grade point average. Reasons for taking on-line courses were not related to self-reported grade point average. Students who had completed fewer credit hours thought that on-line courses could enhance their skills for the future and would be easier than traditional classes. A positive correlation was found between the number of credit hours a student was taking in the present semester was associated with students who indicated that the on-line course format was the only one available. The study was limited to one community college located in a county with a depressed economy. The small number of students who participated in the study may have limited the generalizability to all students enrolled in online courses at this college in particular and to students in online classes in other community colleges. Using this exploratory study, further research is needed with a larger, |

Chapters: Quantitative Marketing Research, Multivariate Testing, Uplift Modelling, Bcc Research, Optimized Consumer Intensity Analysis, Turf Analysis. Not illustrated. Excerpt: Quantitative marketing research is the application of quantitative research techniques to the field of marketing. It has roots in both the positivist view of the world, and the modern marketing viewpoint that marketing is an interactive process in which both the buyer and seller reach a satisfying agreement on the “four Ps” of marketing: Product, Price, Place (location) and Promotion. As a social research method, it typically involves the construction of questionnaires and scales. People who respond (respondents) are asked to complete the survey. Marketers use the information so obtained to understand the needs of individuals in the marketplace, and to create strategies and marketing plans. Simply, there are five major and important steps involved in the research process: A brief discussion on these steps is: The design step may involve a pilot study to in order to discover any hidden issues. The codification and analysis steps are typically performed by computer, using software such as DAP or PSPP. The data collection steps, can in some instances be automated, but often require significant manpower to undertake. Interpretation is a skill mastered only by experience. The data acquired for quantitative marketing research can be analysed by almost any of the range of techniques of statistical analysis, which can be broadly divided into descriptive statistics and statistical inference. An important set of techniques is that related to statistical surveys. In any instance, an appropriate type of statistical analysis should take account of the various types of error that may arise, … More: |

Premarital Sex in America: How Young Americans Meet, Mate, and Think about Marrying $24.95 The period of young adulthood, from ages 18 to 23, is popularly considered the most sexualized in life. But is it true? What do we really know about the sexual lives of young people today?Premarital Sex in America combines illuminating personal stories and comprehensive research surveys to provide the fullest portrait of heterosexuality among young adults ever produced. Mark Regnerus and Jeremy Uecker draw upon a wealth of survey data as well as scores of in-depth interviews with young adults from around the country, both in and out of college. Digging underneath stereotypes and unexamined assumptions, the authors offer compelling–and often surprising–answers to such questions as: How do the emotional aspects of sexual relations differ between young men and women? What role do political orientations play in their sexual relations? How have online dating and social networking sites affected the relationships of emerging adults? Why are young people today waiting so much longer to marry? How prevalent are nontraditional forms of sex, and what do people think of them? To better understand what drives the sexual behaviors of emerging adults, Regnerus and Uecker pay special attention to two important concepts: sexual scripts, the unwritten and often unconscious rules that guide sexual behavior and attitudes; and sexual economics, a theory which suggests that the relative scarcity of men on college campuses contributes to the “hookup” culture by allowing men to diminish their level of commitment and thereby lower the “price” they have to “pay” for sex. For anyone wishing to understand how sexual relations between young adults have changed and are changing, Premarital Sex in America will serve as a touchstone for years to come. |

Quantitative Research $22.63 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Chapters: Statistical Survey, Quantitative Marketing Research, Amba Research, Quantitative History, Labour Force Survey, National Business Research Institute, Ciri Human Rights Data Project, Most Probable Number, Structured Interview, Markettools, Quantitative Psychological Research. Excerpt: Statistical surveys are used to collect quantitative information about items in a population. Surveys of human populations and institutions are common in political polling and government, health, social science and marketing research. A survey may focus on opinions or factual information depending on its purpose, and many surveys involve administering questions to individuals. When the questions are administered by a researcher, the survey is called a structured interview or a researcher-administered survey. When the questions are administered by the respondent, the survey is referred to as a questionnaire or a self-administered survey. The questions are usually structured and standardized. The structure is intended to reduce bias; (see questionnaire construction). For example, questions should be ordered in such a way that a question does not influence the response to subsequent questions. Surveys are standardized to ensure reliability, generalizability, and validity (see quantitative marketing research). Every respondent should be presented with the same questions and in the same order as other respondents. In organizational development (OD), carefully constructed survey instruments are often used as the basis for data gathering, organizational diagnosis, and subsequent action planning. Some OD practitioners (e.g. Fred Nickols) even consider survey guided development as the sine qua non of OD. Serial surveys repeat the same questions at different points in time… More: |

Questionnaire Design of Self-Administered Paper and Online Surveys $59.89 Survey research in different fields is a valuable input to management decision making. However, research is not an infallible tool that will always guarantee right decisions. But neither should it be replaced by decision making based solely on manager’s personal feelings. In this book the advantages and shortcomings of mail and online survey are discussed. The emphasis is on these quantitative methods because they behold many similarities from the perspective of respondents, the most important of which is the lack of interviewer presence. Therefore, they present a great challenge to researchers because the questionnaire design can influence the whole outcome of the survey. The author demonstrates that it is possible to lessen measurement and non-response errors with effective questionnaire design of self-administered surveys. The main principles on how to ask questions, what are the criteria for and how to construct a respondent-friendly questionnaire, and how to pretest the questionnaire are specified. The analysis and examples presented are useful for all types of managers, specialists and researchers who are involved in decision-making processes. |

The Nation’s Favourite . . .: The UK’s Best-Loved Things $13.95 Get to know the UK by learning about their favorite things. This book attempts to answer a simple question: What are Great Britain’s favorite things? Using surveys, polls, market research, and bestseller lists it looks at everything from computer games to crisps, diets to dog names, poems to playground games. The picture of Britain that emerges is sometimes familiar, often surprising, and always fascinating. As a nation they currently drink more Buckfast Tonic Wine than Harvey’s Bristol Cream, they enjoy their first snack of the day at 10:37am, and their preferred biscuit to dunk in their tea is McVitie’s Chocolate Digestive. And while they are now more likely to read their newspaper online than on paper, their nation is still baffled by some aspects of the twenty-first century. The most asked question last year on one internet search engine was “What is Twitter?”—only slightly ahead of “Is Lady GaGa a man?” |

In the third book of our Weiser Field Guides, Bella online paranormal editor, Deena West Budd, surveys the still-emerging field of cryptozoology–a term coined in the 1950s by a French zoologist named Bernard Heuvelmans–the study of “hidden” or “unknown” animals not recognized in standard zoology. From traditional cryptids like Big Foot, the Abonimable Snowman and Nessie, to mythical cryptids like unicorns, vampires, dragons, and werewolves, to lesser-known cryptids like bunyips (waterhorses), Encantado (Dolphin Men of Brazil), thunderbirds, mothmen, and chupacabra, these creatures are very much alive, says Budd, if beyond the realm of normal perception. The Weiser Field Guide to Cryptozoology includes a brief history of the field of cryptozoology and surveys all the creatures for which any credible amount of research exists. Budd gives readers tips on how to spot these creatures, as well as cautionary advice on how to interact with them. Two dozen line drawings rendered from eye witness descriptions accompany the text. |

The influence of parental bonding, male gender role conflict, and affect regulation on adult attachment avoidance: Predictors of men’s discomfort with intimacy. $49.99 Past research has indicated that masculine socialization norms contribute to avoidance of intimacy in close relationships, which has been proposed to inhibit men’s psychological adjustment. The goal of the current dissertation was to examine associations among parental bonding, gender role conflict, affect regulation capacity, and adult attachment avoidance to describe the dynamic interaction between psychological and societal influences impacting adult attachment style. The present investigation employed a developmental contextual framework used to examine attachment and psychoanalytic theories describing the evolution of characteristic male interpersonal strategies. In the current study, it was proposed that parental bonding would predict adult attachment avoidance, gender role conflict, and affect regulation capacity. It was also hypothesized that both gender role conflict and three distinct affect regulation variables would predict adult attachment avoidance. Finally, the study aimed to test a model proposing that gender role conflict and affect regulation variables mediate the relationship between parental bonding and avoidance of intimacy in romantic relationships. Two hundred and sixty-six undergraduate men completed a series of online surveys and 10 of these individuals participated in open-ended, follow-up interviews. The relationships between study variables were examined with linear regression and mediational analyses. Qualitative data regarding constructs of interest were elicited from interview respondents and interpreted for themes. Results demonstrated partial support for mediation effects, indicating that gender role conflict, emotion regulation suppression, and emotion regulation reappraisal helped to explain the association between maternal bonding care and adult attachment avoidance. In addition, interview themes related to five content areas were described and integrated with implications for future research directions and clinical applications. |

Objectives It has been said that more is known about the surface of the moon than about the Earth s oceans. C-MORE was designed to explore the largely unknown world of microorganisms in the sea and to educate the public and other scientists about these organisms. The motto of the center is “From genomes to biomes ” meaning that the researchers want to look at how the diversity of microbes in the ocean influences the structure and function of the world s largest biome, the ocean. Background The center was initially proposed, and is now directed by Professor David Karl, of the University of Hawai’i at Manoa . C-MORE has affiliated researchers working at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute , Oregon State University , the University of California Santa Cruz , the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute , and the University of Hawaii at Manoa . C-MORE is the only one of NSF s 17 Science and Technology Centers that focuses on microbial oceanography . Research C-MORE scientists want to understand biological processes that begin at microscopic scales and are expressed in vitally significant issues such as climate change . Areas of research range from genomic surveys, to studies of the genetic basis of marine microbial biogeochemistry to building ecosystem models . One of the strengths of the Center is its sea-going capability, as |
