An analysis of sports media usage by adults. $49.99 The problem was an analysis of sports media usage of adult attendees of the Virtual Sports Employment Fair, March 18-19, 2009, online through the company, Expos2. It was determined this is the first time that virtual online technology was used to contact subjects for an academic study. Although the survey itself was disseminated via virtual marketing software, the initial and all subsequent interaction with the subjects was done completely online using Expos2 software. A two-page questionnaire of 40 questions was developed to determine what sports media adults use on a regular basis, with what frequency these are used and if there was a consideration of content and gender. A pilot study was conducted with 20 adults ages 18 and older to test the reliability and validity of the questionnaire. Changes were made to the survey based on the results of the pilot study and recommendations by a panel of experts. The subjects were volunteers who agreed to be part of the study for a small incentive. All the subjects were attendees of the Virtual Sports Employment Fair, held March 18-19, 2009. The survey was uploaded to a subscription-based virtual marketing company, Constant Contact, and the names of all the attendees of the Virtual Sports Employment Fair were entered into the e-mail database. An e-mail request to complete the survey was sent to all attendees of the Fair at least twice during the event and again the following weekend. Of the 162 attendees that registered, 123 had active accounts, and 40 voluntarily participated in the study. The data supplied from the 40 surveys was collected and entered into SPSS 15.0 analysis software. The researcher was unable to draw any statistically significant differences between the usage habits of older and younger adults, men and women and education levels. An examination of the integrative relationship among the factors of achievement goal theory and self-determination theory: Addressing existing problems and missing links. $69 For almost a decade researchers (Biddle, Soos, & Chatzisarantis, 1999; Wang & Biddle, 2007) have been advocating for studies that advance our understanding of the ways in which AGT and SDT are related in the exercise domain. Despite the fact that researchers have been stressing the importance of empirical tests of the convergence of the two theories, there has yet to be a satisfactory study in response to this demand. Further, existing studies that have attempted to even partially address the issue have been methodologically flawed (Biddle et al., 1999; Ntoumanis, 2001). The purpose of this study was to establish a conceptual model that consists of relating the dimensions of SDT and AGT to each other, and to test a model linking the two theories. A complete model of the relationships among the dimensions of the AGT and two subtheories of SDT (e.g., organismic integration theory and cognitive evaluation theory) was developed and tested using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Questionnaires developed based on the three theoretical explanations were completed online. The online survey was comprised of four measures: Perceptions of Success Questionnaire-Exercise (POSQ-E), Behavioral Regulation in Exercise Questionnaire: Intrinsic Motivation Subscale (BREQ), Exercise Motivation Scale (EMS), and Psychological Need Satisfaction in Exercise Scale (PNSE). Several structural models were tested to examine the integrative relationships among the theories. Results showed that, when compared with ego orientation, task orientation had a stronger influence on need satisfaction and internalized behavioral regulations. In addition, need satisfaction predicted behavioral regulations. Findings also suggested that both ego and task orientations not only influence behavioral regulations for exercise directly, but also indirectly through satisfaction of the needs for competence, autonomy, and relatedness. |

Learning strategies, motivation, and self-reported academic outcomes of students enrolled in Web-based coursework. $69 The arrival of the Internet and the web browser has led to a worldwide explosion of web-based virtual classes as a form of instructional delivery systems among institutions of higher education (Moore & Kearsley, 2005). Colleges and universities are beginning to offer classes and in some instances complete programs using the Internet. However, research on student motivation and outcomes is mixed. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between student self-regulation, self-efficacy, motivation toward web-based coursework, self-reported course outcomes, and reasons for enrolling in web-based courses on student retention in web-based courses. A web-based survey was developed by the researcher along with The Motivation Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ), developed by Pintrich, Smith, Garcia, and McKeachie (1991). A total of 21 community college students from a possible sample of 189 submitted their completed surveys for a response rate of 11.6%. The findings of the study indicated that student motivation was not statistically significantly correlated with self-reported grade point average. Reasons for taking on-line courses were not related to self-reported grade point average. Students who had completed fewer credit hours thought that on-line courses could enhance their skills for the future and would be easier than traditional classes. A positive correlation was found between the number of credit hours a student was taking in the present semester was associated with students who indicated that the on-line course format was the only one available. The study was limited to one community college located in a county with a depressed economy. The small number of students who participated in the study may have limited the generalizability to all students enrolled in online courses at this college in particular and to students in online classes in other community colleges.
